dough flowers..

I'm making a small bouquet of flat-colored polymer clay flowers which will later be spray painted white for an amazing contrast of stark white against the black-bottomed cube.
Usually the prominent part of polymer clay flowers are their bright colors. I use colored clay and after (and sometimes before) baking they are further painted to accentuate certain areas, but these are different, more sculptural and elegant.
Stay tuned for the final product.

So, I was looking for a hair flower, having decided that I really needed one. I had begun the search process thinking that I would use a real flower since it would be less expensive and disposable—however, my ventures into the world of Etsy soon led me to other conclusions.

Millefiori is Italian for "Thousand Flowers."  Originally a technique used for making decorative glass works, a similar process can be used to make designs in polymer clays, such as Fimo and Sculpey.  These materials are perfect for beads, earrings and other jewelry.
For this flower, I've chosen a green center with blue petals on a white background.  It's a good idea to pick a high-contrast background or it will be hard to see the boundaries of the petals.
A good craft store will have a lot of different shades to choose from.  I prefer to buy primary shades and lots of black and white and mix my own.  That provides a smoother color gradient and greater control over the end result.  Also, it's way cheaper that way, and mixing the colors gets the clay worked to a usable consistency.

This lovely necklace is hand made from Italian cold clay,

This lovely necklace is hand made from Italian cold clay, a paper based, light weight clay. I hand cut and stamp each piece, paint with beautiful acrylic colors and dust each one with silver mica powder to enhance the design. I then coat them with varnish and place inside a silver lace edge setting. The pendants dangle from delicate sterling silver 18” chains. The pendant is 28mm in diameter (a little over an inch.)

These are one-of-a-kind wearable works of art. Each one is slightly different than the one pictured due to hand-mixing of the paints, but I will make a close match for you. I have earrings and rings to coordinate with each pendant.

All of my jewelry comes nicely gift boxed and ready to give or to keep for yourself!
